2024 Milan Design Week × Wu Bin · Pan Garden Art Installation
From April 15 to 28, 2024, at the invitation of Gilda Bojardi — editor-in-chief of INTERNI magazine and visionary behind Milan Design Week — acclaimed Chinese designer Wu Bin partnered with YARDCOM to present "Pan Yuan: Momentality Unfold", part of the "Travelogue on Mountain" art installation series, at Milan Design Week 2024.
"Pán Yuan" is a softly ethereal, East Asian-inspired structure whose lightness creates a deliberate dialogue with the solid weight of the historic University of Milan buildings surrounding it. From a distance, it reads as a dreamlike vision of the Orient. Set within the Cortile d'Onore, the installation responds to the subtlest movement of its paper elements: one can trace the shape of the wind, observe the shifting patterns of light, and sense nuanced changes in temperature. Where past and present converge, and where Eastern and Western architectural languages meet within a single courtyard, the ephemeral becomes monumental. This balance between humanity and nature — between modernity and Eastern tradition — lies at the heart of Wu Bin's design philosophy and YARDCOM's ongoing exploration of the human-nature relationship.
Throughout the week, "Pán Yuan" welcomes designers, artists, and design enthusiasts from across the globe. Raised in Eastern culture and approaching design with a cross-cultural perspective, Wu Bin, together with YARDCOM, hopes the installation will serve as a bridge between traditions, presenting an elegant and assured expression of Eastern aesthetics to a global audience. Ultimately, the work offers a quiet reflection on a world where harmony and diversity coexist.
